Joseph Pilates, Founder of Pilates Joseph Pilates - The Legend

Joseph "Jo" Pilates was enamored of the classical Greek ideal of a man who is balanced equally in body, mind, and spirit. He came to believe that our modern life-style, bad posture, and inefficient breathing were the roots of poor health. His answer to these problems was to design a unique series of life enhancing physical exercises that help to correct muscular imbalances and improve posture, coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility, as well as to increase breathing capacity and organ function.

Rene Wendt, Pilates InstructorRene Wendt, PTA

Rene's first experience with Pilates was an attempt to find an answer for chronic back pain that had plagued her for a year.  After adding Pilates to her exercise regime she not only recovered, but wanted to share what she had learned.

Her background includes STOTT, the Physical Mind Institute and The Mind Body Institute.  Rene is a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant working at an outpatient clinic.

Rene loves to be outside and running is her passion. She also enjoys hiking and snow skiing.  This photo was taken in the heather hills in Ireland!

"Pilates was a bit intimidating before we started going to Rene's classes. Her gentle approach, yet excellent knowledge of pilates, put us at ease and now we love working on those "core muscles"!  She asks for our input in her classes so we feel like we are getting real individual attention and a great workout. She really is a gem!"
- Polly & Carolyn

"I had a super great session with Rene! We did a lot of exercises on the Reformer and the Springboards too.  She's helpful and informative but more importantly she's very understanding and patient with my limitations.
As with all your instructors, she doesn't make me feel bad if there are excercises or movements I simply can't do (yet).  Everyone at your studio is sooooooooooo nice!" - Suzanne

Rebecca "Reba" Crouse Romann

Rebecca believes that a happy body is a moving body; that a solid understanding of and respect for one's body is key to a full and healthy life.

In order to share this passion for wellness, Rebecca became an AFAA certified group fitness instructor in 2004, teaching everything from bootcamp to hoop dance. Shortly thereafter, she fell in love with Pilates and began instructing group Pilates classes in 2006. In Pilates, she found the unique focus on body mechanics, rehabilitation, and posture that all of her other workouts lacked. Rebecca is now a STOTT trained Pilates instructor, working toward certification on all equipment in 2010.

Whenever she's not in the studio, Rebecca can be found outside on the move - road biking, hiking, snowboarding or hula hooping.
This photo was taken after a 50 mile trek on Lopez Island. Email: rebecca@joyofpilates.net.

"Since taking classes with Rebecca I find myself being more aware of my posture and am seeing amazing results in my physical appearance.  My friends and family are even commenting on the “change” they are seeing. Rebecca is great with checking in to make sure that I am doing the movements correctly and without any pain. The hour class always seems to fly by way too fast!  I look forward to my weekly classes!" - Carly G.

"Rebecca's teaching style really works for me. She is very knowledgeable and clear in her directions. She has a remarkable ability to scan effectively what is going on with the participants, responding in a way that maintains the momentum of the class while giving personal attention. Her approach is flowing, balanced, and encouraging, with a healthy dose of body awareness learnings to inform and inspire. Add to this Rebecca's playfulness and humor and you've got a fun time!" - Lilium F.

Catalina KenevanCata Kenavan

Cata has been passionate about health and fitness since she gave up smoking at 19 and got on a bike instead. Cata loves teaching, whether it be to high school students, beginning knitters, or Pilates students. She has studied yoga and NIA (a dance-like fitness) for a number of years and immediately fell in love with Pilates. She loves the focus, serenity and challenge that Pilates brings and feels a whole new connection to her body since she became aware of her core muscles.

Just like her obsessive and smart border Collies, Cata focused with determination and passion on her Pilates practice and trained to be an instructor through Joy of Pilates. She is an IDEA member and is excited to teach and inspire her students to connect to their bodies and stretch their minds as they push themselves to new limits.  When she is not in the Pilates studio you might see her pedaling on Chuckanut Drive, doing agility with her partner and their brilliant dogs, or working on her artwork, which is currently on display in the studio! Email: cata@joyofpilates.net

"Cata is an amazing teacher! Her upbeat personality, energy and sense of fun make every class enjoyable. She'll have us laughing as we sweat and build our core. Cata is great about modifying exercises if you are having any physical problems. Her classes fly by- you hardly notice the time as she blends difficult exercise, core building and really good stretches. We are so thankful to spend every Monday evening in Cata's class and we've felt and seen ourselves grow stronger with her help!" - Bob & Debra H.

"Cata's classes are a delight to attend because her enthusiasm and passion for teaching Pilates is so obvious.
While the classes are fast paced, she always pays close attention to each individual's form so she can correct anything that could be problematic AND she always has a smile on her face. I love that!" - Barbara P.
