Heidi & Sam
    Super-Star Couple!

February 2012

"We both have been avid and active athletes our entire lives. Heidi was a basketball and soccer player in her youth, in college and adulthood. Sam has been a swimmer for over 30 years, and cycling is a growing interest. However, Heidi suffered two devastating knee injuries (playing soccer) that required reconstructive surgery and Sam had noticed a slow decline in his performance as a swimmer. Something was missing, and we learned that we had to build core strength and stability. The answer was at Joy of Pilates. Because of the work we do with Ella and the staff, we certainly feel stronger and the challenges of the classes keep us coming back (plus, everyone is really nice). Because of improved strength, Heidi has built her knees back to nearly full strength (soccer isn't in the future, though), and Sam is swimming better than he has in about 10 years. We exercise because it's fun, keeps us a step ahead of the doctor, and encourages us to pursue a healthier approach to our active lives."

Joy Third Anniversary

          Great Reasons to Pilates....

Jen M:
I exercise because it makes me feel good. Coming to Pilates class a couple of times a week makes my body stronger and my mind calmer. I am better able to do my job teaching Kindergarteners and play with my family. Why do I do Pilates? After back surgery last spring, I needed to find exercise which would be safe for my back and strengthen my core. Attention to form and posture are central to all of the exercises. Why do I do Pilates at Joy? The teachers are amazing and class is fun! I love working hard and safely in every class! So many benefits, why wouldn't I do Pilates?"
Stephanie W.: "I love my reformer class and look forward to it every week. It has made me a much stronger, more fit and more centered person. I love that I get to learn anatomy along with different Pilates movements every week. I credit this class with helping me regain my strength and confidence after having plantar fasciitis for 9 months from a running injury. I am also thankful for what it has done for my running. Thank you Joy of Pilates for all that you have done for me!"

Brandi: "Exercise is a way of life for me. I appreciate it not only for the health benefits, but also because of the way it makes me feel. I love to see the results from my hard work and also reap the benefits of being active. Although I've only been practicing Pilates for close to a year, I have learned so much about myself, my strengths and my abilities. I credit the knowledgable instructors for all that I've been taught and look forward to each week not only because of the warm and friendly environment, but also because I know that I'll be challenged in a different way every time I attend, with the results of a stronger, healthier and happier me.

Carly R.: "I love working out at Joy because of the great instructors - they make working out fun!  Since starting Pilates over a year ago I feel like my body has been transformed. If I miss a week I feel unbalanced. I am addicted to Joy of Pilates!"

Erin: "I exercise because it makes me feel strong.  I like knowing that I can challenge myself and if I work at it, I can meet and even exceed my original goal.  Feeling my muscles move reminds me of what I can accomplish.  I exercise because it helps my mental outlook on life.  Physical activity helps me deal with the daily stressors in life, and not allow myself to fall into negative patterns.  I do Pilates because it allows me to take time to focus on myself.  I get a wonderful workout and I can feel good that I am continually challenging myself to become stronger, more focused, and able to better perform the movements.  I feel that Pilates will always push me to do better.

Matt: "I exercise, first and foremost, because it feels good.  I want to have a high quality of life, now and in the future, that allows me to go out and do the things I love - playing with my dog and the nephews, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, riding my motorcycle, sailboat racing, among other things.  I do Pilates, specifically, because having a strong core allows me to sleep better, and it keeps my back healthy.  It allows me the freedom to do what I want without having to worry about injuring myself.  Pilates also complements the Muay Thai kickboxing I do as everything starts from the core.  Of course, exercise allows me to enjoy all of the wonderful beers out there without the guilt!"

Doreen: "As I approach my 62nd year, I am so pleased that I can continue doing the activities that I love; mountain. biking, river rafting, tennis, etcI owe much of this good health to my weekly Pilates class. Exercise for me is also a form of meditation, getting the cobwebs out and fresh new air in! Thanks ladies."

Rhonda:  "After the recent passing of my Mother I decided that I wanted to focus on staying healthy and fit in my senior years. Over the years I have tried almost every form of exercise there is and decided to give Pilates a try this time. I am so glad I did and am very grateful I chose Joy of Pilates. I already feel so much stronger and healthier than when I started and Emma is such a joy to work with; the hour passes so quickly, the fastest of the day. I am a Grandmother of 8 so I need to be in shape to keep up with them. Thank you Joy of Pilates for providing such a great environment to get healthy."

Susan: "I broke my shoulder last winter and going to Pilates 2x a week has helped me keep the range of motion and strength -- and out of the Doctor's office!  I also really enjoy all the friends I've made in the Monday/ Thursday Gentle Pilates Classes."

Sarah F: "I started at Joy of Pilates almost one year ago. I had recently retired from teaching and had gotten the results of my first bone density test that indicated I had osteopenia. I was looking for exercise that would help with building bone density. A friend told me about the ”kind” pilates class and I began with that. Ella was so encouraging and supportive and the class was so welcoming that I began coming twice a week. Later I tried more drop in classes and began reformer class with Jen. I was hooked! I feel stronger, have more stamina, and even feel taller! I love that they are “picky” and always make sure we are doing the exercises correctly. But it’s not just the pilates that I love, it’s coming to this studio where everyone is warmly welcomed and challenged at their level. "
