Sandra

  • Better Bones and Balance ® Instructor

  • Zumba Instructor

Sandy discovered Joy of Pilates in 2019 when she was working to regain full body strength following injuries and realizing that aging with grace requires effort. Sandy credits the studio, the teachers and fellow students for helping her return to very active life. After retiring from a career in land conservation, Sandy decided that fitness was her next calling. She was certified to teach several types of Zumba in 2025 and hired by the YMCA of Whatcom County in the Active Older Adult Program. In addition, Sandy teaches a seated form of Zumba at local retirement communities. After being diagnosed with osteopenia herself, and observing the strength and balance challenges experienced by her Zumba students, Sandy pursued instructor certification from Oregon State University’s nationally recognized Better Bones and Balance ® program. She completed the training and received her certification in 2026. In addition to her passion for fitness and teaching, Sandy loves gardening, cooking, flyfishing, hiking, birdwatching, and traveling. She hopes to start playing hockey again soon.
